How to Get Involved
How can your business support a student-athlete with an internship/mentorship opportunity? Agreements, partnerships, mentorships, and internships will all vary according to what your organization is able to offer in the way of networking and growth opportunities. Here are some good questions to ask:
- Do we have a need for an intern, or do we want to structure a more informal engagement?
- Can we structure an internship to be virtual to make it easier for a student-athlete to participate over a longer engagement, or do we want to have someone on-site, recognizing that the duration of the engagement may be shorter?
- Am I personally willing to make a commitment to mentoring a student-athlete in my professional field over the next 2-4 years with or without any specific formal working engagement with my company?
- Are there professional organizations in my field (Stanford affiliated or not) for which we can sponsor the membership of the student-athlete to further their career exposure and objectives?
There is no minimum commitment or governing standard for your engagement. Whatever approach you choose, you will be sure to enrich and broaden your student’s life!
